Head Coach Amy Baum

Amy fell in love with volleyball in the sixth grade, and hasn't figured out how to play any other team sports since then. To some, this would be a handicap, but it means Amy has had plenty of time over the years to devote to her favorite sport, which she continues to play competitively both indoors and outdoors today. In high school, she played one year on JV and two years on varsity at Xavier College Prep. Her senior year, Xavier beat an undefeated team to win the 5A State Championship and she was named Co-MVP. She was recruited to Washington University in St. Louis, a Division III school well-known for its academics, where she played volleyball. While at Wash U, her team won an NCAA National Championship, with a second place finish the following year, and Amy placed on the University Athletic Association All-Academic Team and was awarded University Athletic Association All-Conference Honorable Mention. Also, her senior year, she helped coach the Washington University club volleyball team. After graduating with a degree in Psychology in 2007, she decided to follow her love of languages and moved to Japan. There, she spent the year teaching English at a junior high and an elementary school, where she was constantly greeted with wide-eyed exclamations of how tall she (at 5'11 and wearing flats) was. She helped coach the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade volleyball team at her school, and often went to practice with a friendly "Mama-san" or mother's league team in the evenings. Even though the volleyball nets are higher here, Amy is happy to be back in Arizona this year, and she is excited to put her 11 years of volleyball experience to work toward a fantastic season.
Assistant Coach Samantha Morse
Samantha started playing volleyball in the seventh grade and hasn't stopped since. She played for Ironwood High School and was the starting middle blocker her junior and senior years. Her junior year she helped take Ironwood to State Runners up and her senior she helped lead the lady eagles to a 5A-II State Championship. Along with playing volleyball her junior and senior years of high school she helped coach the boys volleyball team at Ironwood High School. Although she is not currently playing volleyball for a college she is playing both indoor and outdoor volleyball competitively. She is very excited about coaching for Zia this year and is looking forward to a productive season.
