Strykerz take FIRST in their Region Tournament!

Great job girls!

Strykerz Tournament Summary

Jan. 28, 2012

Zia v. Arrowhead

Zia win

First match of the day and we were more than ready. We came out strong and took game 1 pretty easily. Game two went to Arrowhead, but it was a close game. The Strykerz are fighters and went into game three with no doubts, and finished them off to put us in the winners bracket.

Zia V. Spiral

Spiral Win

This was a tough team. They were tall and hit hard for twelve year olds. The first game was a quick loss, but the Strykerz adjusted and gave them a run for their money in game 2. We still ended up losing the match, but not without a fight.

Zia V Az Saguaros

Zia Win

This match also went to three games. We were playing for 3rd or 4th, and we really wanted that 3rd place spot. They dug deep, and won the third game in extra points.

3RD PLACE!!

Our setter captain was out with a sore knee so our other captain stepped up to fill her role, and did a great job! All the girls played well, and when they want to finish a game they do it. We started as seed #13 out of 60, and finished the day #12 out of 60. Great job girls!!

1st Place at the AZ Kickoff Tournament!

This was our first tournament of the year and our first tournament ever!! We were all very nervous, but excited for this weekend.

January 7th, Day 1

Zia vs. Aspire

We won this in two games. We started this match a little rocky since it was our very first time really running an offense. We had some good serving and passing and that carried us to the win.

Zia vs. Barcelona

Again we won this in two games. In this match we were moving a little faster and were more aware of where to go. We again had some good serving and passing, and won pretty easily.

Zia vs. VOS

This team was pretty tall, and ended up beating us pretty good in the first game of this match. Weweren’t really prepared to move as quickly, or defend real hitters. In game two we adjusted and kept pace with this team, but still ended up losing in the end. Losing this match made Strykerz come back the next day ready to fight.

January 8th, Day 2

Zia vs. EVJ

Our girls were ready to fight hard this day, and they were ready when we started this match. Things really started to come together and move more smoothly on the court. We went to 3 games with this team, but ended up with the win.

Zia vs. Az Sky

Semi finals! We knew we had to play hard against this team if we wanted to move on. The girls came out and dominated. The girls were ready to sub when they were supposed to and by now, for the most part, knew where there were supposed to be on the court. They were serving tough, passing great, and hitting the ball! They started thinking quick and making saves. We took Sky down in two games, and moved on to the finals.

Zia vs. VOS (again)

This team was our only loss in the tournament from the day before. Strykerz wanted it BAD! This team is motivated and dedicated. We won the first game, but it was a tough one. They played hard, moved fast, and found their base!! Again serving was tough, as was passing. We had several at the net saves by our setters and middles. Our outsides were hitting, and our defenders were quick to get there. At 24-23 in the 2nd game we were ready to call a time out against one of their good servers, and before we could do it the game was won. We were so surprised and proud of these girls. They were such good sports, making sure to congratulate the VOS team on a good game when the match was over. From the beginning of Saturday to the end of Sunday this group of girls made a complete transformation into a volleyball team.

Congrats players, parents and coaches

Way to represent Zia Volleyball !!
